Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
it won't work..at least not in the long run.
might as well get a can of black paint and call it the day.

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
plasti dip works pretty good on the grills, also saw a video on YouTube of plasti dipped wheels, clear coat on top of it isn't gonna work good

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
I wouldn't plasti dip a lip.I mean every time you scrape it you will be loosen the rubber coating. You should just paint it.Wheels and grills don't get scraped up like a lip would. If you put a thick coat of plasti dip you will get a clear coat kinda glossy finish.Thin coats of plasti dip will give you a more matte look

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
plasti dip is not something you keep on for a long time.
by using a clearcoat you may cause a reaction and peel/lift the plasti dip.
if you're really concerned about protection might as well use truck bed liner like one guy did..LOL

LOL...no
for example..
you spray a layer 2mil thick.
a chunk gets ripped off it.
you respray another 2mil.
what happens is that your spot that got ripped off is 2mil and the areas around it is 4mil. you'll see the indentation/depression difference. you probably won't see it if you're 10 ft away.
color wise should be ok.

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
You might as well just leave it unpainted at that point or like Dan said, even a rattle can job would look halfway decent.

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
I've plastic dipped my g37s rims then used gloss clear black coat. 6 month later they look the same good condition. It's in the preparation. Just remove all dirt and grease. No sanding it necessary. The good thing is you can peel it off if you dont like it. For the front lip give it a try it only 5.99 a can. If you don't like peel.

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
I'd save the cash and get it done right. Spray can clearcoats are way too soft to last in the long run :/

Re: Plasti Dip and Clear Coat?
Plastidip came out with a new clearcoat that's call the glossifier, not the regular plasti dip clear. It retains the property of plastidip with the glossy look. check out their gallery http://www.dipyourcar.com/

No. The whole point of Plasti Dip is minimum prep, no sanding or priming required, so you can return to your original color easily by just peeling it off.

I've only plastidipped my grille for a week so I cant speak from experience.
But from what I've read online, with 3+ coats, plastidip rarely chips due to the rubberize properties, and even when it chips, its easy to repair, just spray another coat of plastidip over the chip and it blends right in.
The only thing I still cant find a definite answer on is will it get damaged by automatic carwashes, i know most people hate running their cars through the wash anyways but sometimes during the snow seasons, it's the easiest way to get all that salt off the chassis of your car.
