Re: Which exhaust size!?.....
stick with 2.5" if you don't plan on going boosted in the near future....3.0" is best for when you're boosted...but that doesn't mean you can't get it, there's just no point in going 3" on a N/A
when you say a nice tone but not loud, what exactly do you mean? the throaty VQ sound/tone?
y not get a full catback? just curious

3" are for boosted cars i s pretty much history now. You can run them no problem if you want.
I know if im getting a catback im going 3". Might as well.

Go with the 2.5 inch. If you have power mods, then 3inch. (intake does not count)

Just bought mine today! hitting an extension ladder at 70mph will help you make the decision to upgrade your exhaust lol

Re: Which exhaust size!?.....
First off all what's ur budget? There's tons of exhaust out there. The cheaper u go the expensive it gets to have a nice deep tone... I had cattman on both of my maxes I just love that exhaust.. and for ur stock exhaust the piping is 2"...

thnx for pointing that out alex...
you're right about the proven dyno results bro....i've read it before....however i don't think the that would apply to this particular case since the OP is on a fully stock setup....feel free to correct me if i'm wrong

Re: Which exhaust size!?.....
wow thanks to all who posted^^^^ well it is a stock set up, the only "mod" it has is a '01 swap on a '99 wit a 5spd, feels like a open diff, intake and straight piping from headers back...
oh and how many cats should I get, cuz someone told me that in stock trim they have 4 cats plus the resonator

Re: Which exhaust size!?.....
with 3" on a N/A car you will lose a little low end torque.
IMHO 2.5 is ok for a stock-ish set up. if you plan to go for more mods then 3".

Depends Cali or federal spec.. Cali spec has pre cats so basically is like having 4 cats. Federal emission if I'm not mistaken it has one precat and one big cat. I never had a fed spec so I don't know much about this. If u go headers u automatically gonna have one cat that's the main cat after the y pipe.

Re: Which exhaust size!?.....
lol its 3 cats or 1 cat Fed spec has one traditional cat after front pipe (Y-Pipe) Cali Spec has 2 pre-cats on each bank and the traditional cat after front pipe. When you mention 4 of anything on a Maxima it will be the oxygen sensors that are being referred to, usually seen on most OBDII vehicles that have separated exhaust banks, even some inline 4 and 6 motors. Most Fed Spec vehicles had 1 to 3 oxygen sensors depending on set up.
Would suggest you buy a Catmann exhaust and call it a day, no need for any additional cats.
