Costco Tires

So today i went to costco to get myself new Michelin tires. i bought 2 new tires. My former front tires were already gone, rear about half way done, they are still decent. What i wanted to do is, to replace my front tires with the new ones and keep the rear ones. However after they were finished with my car i saw that the put the rear ones i had on front, and put 2 new on the back. When i told them, i wanted it the other way, 2 new in the front, keep the same ones in the back, they said its not good, and even tho my car is front wheel drive, they had to put new ones on the back, so the car will hold its ground better and it was their store policy. So should i let it be this way, or go to my shop and replace them the way i want it???

Re: Costco Tires

Costco is actually correct, due to hydroplaning concerns the half worn tires need to be on the front axle, the new tires on the rear axle. This results in an understeer versus an oversteer condition, the former of which is easier to correct.

Re: Costco Tires

I work at a tire shop myself .. And I would have done the same thing as the Costco tech did. Its our store policy to put new tires in the rear. So they are correct and you should leave it for now

Re: Costco Tires

yeah it kinda sounds totally wrong.. but the tech did it right by putting new tires in the BACK.

^^^considering your front wheels do most of the braking, turning, and accelerating (FWD)

personally i would have put them in the front, BUT!!! i know how MY MAX with my suspension/wheels is going to react when and exactly how I drive it, (don't drive risky/stupid and put yourself needlessly into a dangerous situation) but that is ME, and I am responsible for MY driving and my car's setup, and i favor the tread in the front over tread in the back..
^^^ the way i drive is yet another reason i would never ever put a REAR SWAY BAR on my car.
