Hi flow cats, post pics ...
I was thinking of getting a high flow cat for one reason ... I keep scraping the shit out of mine in certain driveways. Is their any gain/loss in power or fuel economy with this? I have a 97, so where are my 02s located?
Does anyone have pics of their cat installed? Does the ebay straight pipes line up or will I need to have them cut and weld? I was thinking of those cattman y-pipe and headers ... So what will be a good cat to use with that, RT or ebay?

Re: Hi flow cats, post pics ...
It's not the scrapping im worried about. It's the way it is angled in front, it pulls the entire exhaust system about an inch when you bruise it hard. The front of it hangs lower than my sideskirts!!! I don't know why they have that tilt on it. The rear part of the cat sits about an inch higher.

I have one...and I didn't see any loss in power/mileage. If anything, it helped those two.
I have the magnaflow one...got it on Ebay but it's from magnaflow itself.

Thanks, I think i might just bear through the winter and do it in the spring. If it fucks up then i'll go. How do we get on the lift ??? My sideskirts are not OEM and roll over the frame alot. It's difficult enough with a regular jack ...

To go on the lift I usually use blocks so the sideskirts won't get messed up. Remind him that the skirts are fiberglass and won't clear the lift.....he would notice but just remind him.
You can buy any cat or whatever the exhaust can be pulled up with hangers to be tucked well into the tunnel so it won't hang......

I think it sits pretty even with the underbody. I don't think you'll have issues. I'll be on the lift tonight putting the hub centric rings on and swapping out the tuner lugs since mine came in (and I'm missing one I got from the guy - spacers will be here soon) so I can take a pic if you want of how it sits/closer up.

Stainless steel. I think it was like $600...but I did all the work myself on that lift so...I didn't pay any labor.

Re: Hi flow cats, post pics ...
i got the random tech cat, that thing is sweet..
i used to have a "high flow" cat i bought back in the day from custom enterprises or whatever, fucking thing shrunk on me on both sides and created gaps so i had exhaust leaks... switch to Random Tech cat and i loved it..
You can actually feel the car moves easiers after the Random Tech cat and mine had no plug for O2 sensor so i cant tell you where the o2 sensor goes, i got a 99 like ilya.
BUT, after a few months, i said fuck the bullshit, i just spent $27 on one of those MEGAN "HI-FLOW" CAT, as they claim, its really just a straight pipe, thats it, its not a cat at all. Luckily for me, the straight pipe was built in such a way the both connecting ends were rotated a bit on an angle and i thought that this is where that "ebay quality" thing comes in and you really just bought useless shit. Well, when i got down there and removed the RD cat, the straight pipe bolted PERFECTLY in place of cat. That weird angle i was talking about actually was done because or exhaust pipes are twisted a lil bit and this pipe is really really nice.
You feel the power difference right away after this race pipe, its only $27 so if you scrape it or destroy it, you can always get replacement and its better than having a cat, as long as you dont mind the smell of fuel around your car when you idle. With a race pipe it reaks of fuel everytime you sitting idling, you just smell that shit so strong unlike with a cat.

+1 Patrick. Tesh FTW! I would definitely say fuck hi flow cats and go with a straight pipe. Don't worry about inspections too, Tesh will get it done. I had him remove my Sanim's (cousin with TL) mufflers and weld on a straight pipe with muffler tips. Properly put on the hangers too so theres no more play when you tap the exhaust (no homo). Got pics of his work if you wanna see also. Sounds good even on an autotragic and "feels" like it has more power. And it doesnt scrape..
...not like it ever did lol.

If its pulling the rest of the exhaust on hard bumps you DEFF need to take it out man. It pulls too much itll loosen other shit and you dont want that. SO yeah switch over, wont be a difference at all id say.

I have:
- SS AutoChrome Headers with O2 Simulator
- Fed. Spec Y-Pipe (the pipe in the pictures is the SS AutoChrome one that came with the headers)
- Magnaflow High-Flow Cat
- Budget B-Pipe
- OEM 4th Gen. Muffler
Result: Quiet when cruising or idling (little rumble but it sounds nice) and when you go WOT, a perfect amount of noise. Not too loud, not too quiet. Let's people know you got something good under the hood (VQ Engine).
As for the high-flow cat pics...here they are Patrick:

They look so beat up and old plus rust on em, i already see area that are beginning to crack and chip up.
I can almost guarantee that my headers, those ones you linked me to, same shit as i have, whatever, they will soon enough just crack a giant hole around the collector, thats where the most weak spots i've noticed are at....
i do have them wrapped in exhaust wrap, i wrapped everything to my exhaust system from headers to muffler except the rear headers to the 3-1 collector piece, i couldnt reach in there to do it since i wrapped everything after it was installed on my car which was very very very painful jammin your hands in places only midgets can work in.
then again, you gotta remember, these type of headers, short runners are good for low end power but choke the engine at high RPM as opposed to long runners which take away some of your low end power but let the engine exhale much easier at high RPMs
take a look at this pic courtesy of Vipervadim
see the difference in headers? short runners vs. long runners
the ones we have are like the XS POWER headers, very similar to stock
but if you do track, 1/4 mile passes, pushing your car near or to redline every gear, you actually are not producing power at high RPMs due to the short runners that choke the engine and dont let it exhale at a fast rate
im switching to long runners which OBX headers have so for the track it should be perfectly coupled when i get my de-k swap with the 00vi manifold, both long runners and 00vi are meant to produce power up top, specially good for highway cruising or pushing the car hard to redline, the motor should not have any sort of "bottle-neck" effect from the parts that are on it

The Cattman looks like the best because its shorter than the OBX and longer than the stock. Cause i miss my low end power.

Re: Hi flow cats, post pics ...
i got the most right now in the low end, as it gets higher i feel it the power dropping off, hate that feeling, i wanna get the longest runners so i can push it to 7k at the track , headers i got now are such garbage, not even worth the labor they cost to put in, never get short runners, get cattman, its not too bad on low end and the rest is already known

That's just surface rust. Stainless steel is still going to show 'use', it just won't rust through.
Mine only have marks from road salt and they are discolorized now.

No problem man. I know for a fact that I bottomed out (basically went off a curb - from my paved area of the driveway to the grass) and my underbody took the hit not the exhaust.

Yea I know that, I'm talking about the ramp where iu get into the van wyck from the whitestone expwy southbound.
I found out yesterday something is broken now. I kept hearing this rattling sound from the rear. I came out the car and was able to move the exhaust in and out with almost two inches of play. It doesn't sound any louder, so I hope it's just a
loose hanger.

It's probably one of those rubber ones on the muffler. I doubt it's the one holding the b-pipe up.

Yea I noticed there was some movement on your exhaust (at least the tip portion) when I was behind you on Steinway Sat night. But your so fucking low+ Sarona Kit molds in with the muffler tip so closely I wasn't sure if what I was seeing was true or due to lack of sleep on my part. I guess this confirms it.
Ilya is right its probably the rubber exhaust hangers. Those things surprisingly are stronger than they look. NYC roads prolly displaced it.

It was all good that night. This started on Sunday and broke off yesterday.
NYC roads won't displace that fool, the fact that my exhaust hooked on a manhole and stretched about 2 inches is what happened there. Stop talking like you know shit.
